Ecotourism
An eco-friendly campsite in the Dordogne
in the heart of an exceptional natural and cultural area
Located just 2.5 km from the Vézère river, our campsite is committed to ecotourism and sustainable development, in the heart of a preserved natural environment. Nestled in three green valleys bordered by forests, our estate offers the ideal setting for a nature-friendly holiday, where comfort, relaxation and ecological commitment go hand in hand.
Here, we favour infrastructure with a low environmental impact, designed to blend harmoniously into the landscape and preserve the natural ecosystems that surround us. Observing the local flora and fauna, slowing down and reconnecting with the essentials are all part of the experience.
The Vézère Valley, nicknamed the ‘Valley of Man’, is a unique place in the world. Shaped by thousands of years of interaction between man and nature, it is now recognised for its rich natural and cultural heritage:
• UNESCO World Heritage Site for its prehistoric sites, including the famous Lascaux cave.
• Biosphere Reserve (UNESCO), promoting a sustainable balance between human activities and biodiversity.
• Natura 2000 area, dedicated to the protection of natural habitats and species.
• Grand Site de France, guaranteeing sustainable landscape management and controlled tourism.
Aware of the fragility of this exceptional environment (forests, meadows, limestone cliffs, wetlands), we are committed to a process of continuous improvement aimed at reducing our impact on the environment, limiting pollution and preserving natural resources in a sustainable manner. This ambition is part of our efforts to obtain a tourism eco-label.
Keen to ensure the transparency of our approach, we have passed the Betterfly environmental labelling audit and obtained a B rating, attesting to our concrete commitment to reducing and controlling the environmental impact of our activity.
Our commitments to sustainable and responsible tourism
♻️ Waste management and reduction
Reducing our ecological footprint relies mainly on improved waste management and prevention:
• Easy and supported selective sorting: clear instructions are displayed in the toilets and accessible via our Cool’n Camp app.
• In accommodation: provision of three sorting bins (household waste, recyclables, organic waste).
• Waste reduction at source: limiting single-use plastics, eliminating disposable welcome kits, using cleaning products in large refillable containers.
• Specific recycling channels: batteries, light bulbs, metal lids, plastic caps (for the benefit of associations) and corks reused on site.
• Circular economy: organic waste is composted or recycled to feed our chickens and sheep and naturally enrich the soil.
💧 Preservation of natural resources and water
Water is a precious resource that we are committed to preserving in a sustainable manner:
• Water-saving equipment: low-flow flush toilets, Eddo shower timers, low-consumption Gjosa shower heads.
• Recovery and reuse: collection of unused water for watering plants.
• Ecological sanitation: wastewater treatment using a reed bed filter, promoting a natural water cycle.
• Sustainable landscaping: planting of local species adapted to the climate, with no need for watering.
⚡ Energy, climate and low-impact infrastructure
Reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions is an essential part of our approach to sustainable tourism:
• Renewable energy production: our solar panels cover around two-thirds of the campsite’s energy needs.
• Energy efficiency: LED lighting, motion detectors, solar lighting to reduce light pollution.
• Choice of high-performance equipment: for each new purchase, we favour A-rated appliances.
• Sustainable mobility: charging station (11KW) for electric vehicles, electric vehicles and bicycles for our team.
• Local sourcing: we favour local producers and suppliers to reduce transport, support the local economy and promote local expertise.
• Responsible catering: sensible management of cooking equipment and elimination of disposable pizza boxes in favour of reusable containers.
🧼 Eco-friendly maintenance and biodiversity preservation
• Eco-friendly cleaning products and methods that are healthy and environmentally friendly. Cotton linen is washed on site and dried in the open air.
• Protection of biodiversity: installation of nesting boxes and insect hotels, and respect for nesting periods (no hedge trimming in spring and summer).
• Control of invasive species: installation of Asian hornet traps from February onwards.
• Ecological continuity: no fencing to allow free movement of wildlife, particularly hedgehogs and deer.
• Differentiated management of green spaces: natural mulching, well-drained soil and maintenance of habitats favourable to local species. Late mowing to encourage the flowering of wild orchids (24 species observed during the season).
• Protected aquatic environments: preserved pond, sanctuary for amphibians and aquatic fauna.
🏡 Accommodation designed to limit environmental impact
Our mobile homes are designed to combine comfort, energy efficiency and respect for the environment:
• Recent mobile homes (since 2021) equipped with blackout blinds and mosquito nets to promote natural ventilation and limit the use of air conditioning at night.
• Reversible air conditioning used as auxiliary heating in spring, contributing to natural dehumidification.
• Individual heating in each room for precise consumption management.
• Outdoor lighting is equipped with timers, limiting unnecessary consumption and light pollution.
• Mobi Connect smart system for energy optimisation (temperature, lighting, automatic shut-off when opened).
• Wood-effect cladding for respectful integration into the landscape.
